History around the area - North Cornelly
Glen Rosa Café (Betty's Café)
Glen Rosa Café (Number 54 Heol Fach, North Cornelly)
Demolished for yet more housing in April / May 2007, this prefabricated wooden / corregated tin roof
buiding in North Cornelly was an important part of Cornelly's community throughout the ages.
The Glen Rosa was established by Mrs Elizabeth Hughes at Ton kenfig as a summer shop in the late 1920's.
The café was incorporated into the house at Heol Fach and was run for many years by Mrs Hughes daughter, Betty.
(Hence Betty's Café)
It had a long room and was used for many situations throughout its life; it once housed a billiard table.
It also served as a meeting place for the Women's
Institute, a Sunday school and as a political meeting place. The wooden seat on the verandah outside the café
was always a haunt of youngsters in the area.
