The Annual Gambo Race Archives
The ArchivesThe Gambo Race is a charity-based community event organised as a joint venture by Pyle RFC and The Cornelly
Arms public house. It was started in 2001 and has become an institution in its own right
gaining a reputation as a great and fun day out for all.
The Annual Gambo Race Coverage
The Gambo Race traverses a route from the Prince of Wales Inn, Kenfig through North
Cornelly towards Pyle RFC.
Aimed at encouraging local community spirit together with raising monies for local
charities, the Gambo Race has taken on a Carnival Type Atmosphere with each yearly event
captured for posterity exclusively here on Kenfig.org
Community AppealAs this website is a community project we would like to make the following appeal to the local community.

If you would like to contribute like some people already have, we will publish your photos on this website
giving credit to you as well. This website is also being archived by the National Library of Wales which will
form a part of its permanent collections so your photos and details will be a permanent reminder of what life
was like in South Wales at the beginning of the 21st century to future generations.

Annual Gambo Race
Started and Judged by local dignitaries, the 2006 event was absolutely enormous.
Amazing Community Spirit were the buzz words - People travelled to the area from as far away as Manchester,
Birmingham, London and Brisbane, Australia to witness this event. The Gambo Race 2006 was even talked about in
central Government for its inginuity, coverage and community spirit. The Gambo Race 2006 was won by Bob the Builder.

Annual Gambo Race 2005Judged by the legendary Welsh Rugby Team scrum half, Gareth Edwards and Kenfig's Lord of the Manor, Lindsey Morgan.
Visitors came to this years event from as far away as Essex, London, Swindon (most of M4 corridor) -
some were noted as having hired a taxi from Glynneath, West Glamorgan. The Gambo Race 2005 was won by F1 Team Ferrari.

Annual Gambo Race 2003
Annual Gambo Race 2003Kenfig.org documented the 2003 Annual Gambo Race for the first time.
Judged by Jonathan Humphreys, Hooker and former Captain Welsh Rugby Team our first online coverage of this
event attracted around 55,000 visitors in the four weeks following the event.
The Gambo Race 2003 was won by the Ant Hill Mob.

Annual Gambo Race 2004Kenfig.org documented the 2004 Annual Gambo Race by popular demand.
Visitors to this years event was were from far and wide - Military Personnel from Royal Marines based in Swindon
actually took part in this years event after having viewed the 2003 event online in Basra, Iraq.
The Gambo Race 2004 was won by the Strongbow Express.

and The New House Inn.
There are limited photos and also noted are the small turn out of on-lookers as opposed to the present day - The
Pondarosa was still open in this year.
The Gambo Race 2002 was won by the Vikings.
