History around the area - North CornellyReligionPyle Calvinistic Methodist Chapel (Capel Y Pil)
Quote: Romans 8:39"Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us
from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
History of the CapelThe Chapel was the sole inspiration of William Thomas of Ty Draw who founded the chapel and
the establishment of the Methodist cause in the area.
He bought three cottages and ground in Cornelly on which to build a chapel, the first Capel-y-Pil,
what is now the vestry was opened in 1786.
Such was the success of the chapel a new building was erected in 1830 and yet another one,
the present building, in 1862.
The chapel celebrated its bi-centenary in 1986 - Capel Y Pil is over 220 years old.
Alongside and to the rear of the chapel is situated North Cornelly cemetery -
This is a well-looked after cemetery managed by Bridgend County Borough Council.
Services are still held at the chapel every week.
