5.6 Digital 3D Modelling

What is 3D Modelling?

In 3D computer graphics, 3D Modelling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any three-dimensional surface of an object (either inanimate or living) via specialized software. The product is called a 3D Model. This can be displayed as a two-dimentional image through a process called 3D Rendering or used in a computer similation of physical phenomena. The model can also be physically created using 3D printing devices.

Models maybe created automatically or manually. The manual modelling process of preparing geometric data for 3D Computer graphics is similar to plastic arts eg. sculpting. 3D modelling software is a class of 3D Computer Graphics Software used to produce 3D models.

DATABASE RIGHTS

9.1 Sui generis Database Rights

United Kingdom

Under regulations 13 & 14 of the Copyright and Rights in Datatbases Regulations 1997 and under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988(the 1988 Act) as amended, database rights automatically subsist to the author of a database contained within the website, namely: Kenfig - The Complete History (e-Resource) www.kenfig.org.uk and in any other associated works where the author of the works is named therein for the substantial investment in obtaining, verifying & presenting the contents of such a database.

Such rights remain in force under regulation 17(2) until the end of the 15th calendar year from the date on which the database wa first made available to the public.

INFRINGEMENT: During this period the database right will be infringed by any person who, without consent, "extracts or re-utilises all or a substantial part of the contents of the database" whether all at once or by repeated extractions of "insubstantial" parts.

LAWFUL USER: Any lawful user of the database is a right under regulation 19(1) "to extract or re-utilise insubstantial parts of the data for any purpose" and that right cannot be restricted by the database owner (regulation 19(2)) - The term "substantial" is defined to mean "substantial in terms of quality or quality or a combination of both."

Database rights last for 15 years.

MODIFICATIONS: Each time a database is substantially modified a new set of rights are created for that database.
