The online photographic coverage of the 2008 Start has been boycotted on this website
due to the following community politics / issues that have arisen & which need addressing:
Reason:
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group is not prepared to indirectly help market the Prince of Wales Inn through
the Annual Gambo Race coverage on this website.
The Kenfig Corporation Trust (Which owns the Prince of Wales Inn) will not recognise the "FACT" that we operate
this website project as a community group in the Bridgend County Borough.
They will not acknowledge our very existence and has refused to help support our project,
(which indirectly helps & supports our local community as a whole) as they feel it is not 'In their Remit' to do so.
It has been decided to boycott the coverage of the "START" of the 2008 Annual Gambo Race
at the Prince of Wales Inn on this website as a direct result.
"Why should we help promote a pub owned by this trust if they show no respect to ourselves"
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group operates this website for the benefit of the local community -
we command a little bit of respect from others within our community and will not tolerate party politics
from the minority who are trying to undermine a successful community project by completely ignoring our
very existence and status.
The Kenfig Corporation Trust is only but a registered charity that owns some land and a pub -
they do not own the history, nor the community and the peoples of the Kenfig area; and more so, they certainly do not dictate
to us at Kenfig.org Local Community Group on how we operate the Kenfig.org website project in any shape or form...
The rest of the 2008 Annual Gambo Race coverage on "www.kenfig.org.uk" continues unabated.
The 2008 "REVISED" Annual Gambo Race Coverage Starts from the Main hill between the Prince & the Angel Inn
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group is demanding some respect from our local community peers
for our permanent & continued Voluntary community work within the Kenfig and surrounding areas
- the local stupidity needs to be addressed once & for all.
Background - Some Basic Facts
This website is run as a not for profit making organisation known as Kenfig.org Local Community Group.
The Prince of Wales Inn is owned by The Kenfig Corporation Trust.
The Kenfig Corporation Trust will not accept the "FACT" that the Kenfig.org website project is operated as
a Community Group within the Bridgend County Borough.
The Kenfig Corporation Trust is operated through the Charity Commission - the Regulator for Charities in England & Wales
(www.charitycommission.gov.uk)
The Kenfig Corporation Trust donates monies to local community groups & organisations
within the 'Old Kenfig Borough' boundary; the origins of the boundary dates back to the 17th Century.
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group is a registered Community Group through BAVO (Bridgend Association
of Voluntary Organisations) and operates from North Cornelly which is within the stipulated boundary as outlined above.
Mr Rob Bowen, the author & originator of the Kenfig.org website made an application to the Kenfig Corporation Trust
for donations in the autumn of 2003 whilst operating the Kenfig.org website as an individual project - both the Clerk to
the Trust and two Trustees (both of whom, at that point in time, were local County Borough Councillors
- one of whom is still a County Borough Councillor) stated that a donation
would have been made at this time "IF" the project was operated as a community group or the like, rather than soley as an individual project.
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group was founded in March 2004. (Learn more)
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group has made a number of detailed requests for donations to the
Kenfig Corporation Trust since 2004 (As a Community Group rather than operating as an indivdual project)
& has supplied all relevant documentation including copies of our Constitution and
copy letter from the National Library of Wales outlining our heritage status for consideration on each application.
The Kenfig Corporation Trust has not supported the Kenfig.org Local Community Group since its inception in 2004.
Indirect Marketing of Prince of Wales Inn
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group indirectly helps to market the Prince of Wales Inn (which is owned by
the Kenfig Corporation Trust) through its website and more so, through the Annual Gambo Race coverage
as the event starts at the Prince of Wales Inn.
The Kenfig.org website attracted ¼ million hits in 7 days after the 2007 Annual Gambo Race as a direct result
of placing images of the Gambo Race online.
Server Logs for the website www.Kenfig.org.uk indicate a substantial volume of worldwide visitors
searching for the Prince of Wales Inn (through Internet Search Engines) and landing on this website.
Community Involvement & Cooperation
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group works in partnership with the Gambo Race organisation and other
local community groups and associates to provide this unique online resource which is now a part of our heritage.
ALL OF THIS IS EXECUTED FREE OF CHARGE AS WE OPERATE AS A NOT FOR PROFIT MAKING ORGANISATION
Statement
Until the Kenfig Corporation Trust show some respect for the Kenfig.org Local Community Group & what we have
and are continuing to do for the local communities around Kenfig & the Nation of Wales as a whole -
We at the Kenfig.org Local Community Group are "NOT" prepared to help indirectly market a pub (owned by the Trust)
through the Annual Gambo Race coverage which is viewed across the world by millions on this website,
especially when the Trust is not prepared to acknowledge our very existence, let alone prepared
to help & support ourselves and the immediate local communities as a direct result of our community group request(s).
What we asked the Trust for financial help towards
All we asked for was some financial assistance towards a hand-held DVD recorder and associated equipment
to produce a DVD of the Annual Gambo Race (which starts at a pub owned by the Trust), where monies of the sale
of which would benefit the local communities... & the Trust itself, additionally, as not everyone
has access to the Internet & hence coverage of the Gambo Race through this medium, a digital projector and
screen were also listed where the community could watch and re-live the Gambo Race at various venues
throughout the area (venues and dates to be arranged in the near future).
The same equipment would be used to continue documenting the entire history of the Old Kenfig Borough / Old Bro Cynffig
through this permanent website project. This website is of national importance in addition to providing the immediate
community with a permanent online record of its history.
Reply from the Trust in writing
The Kenfig Corporation Trust stated "It was not in its remit" to help & support our request.
Both the envelope and the
letter received (dated 10 June 2008) have Kenfig.org Local Community Group as the addressee on them, yet the letter's content
quotes 'the trustees do not feel it qualifies as they deem it to be an individual application'
The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing - Why acknowledge the addressee as a community group when
the trust says it doesn't acknowledge that we exist... bizarre!
The Kenfig Corporation Trust will not accept the "FACT" that the Kenfig.org website project is operated as a
Community Group within the Bridgend County Borough - they are still under the impression that the project
is an individual one even when official documentation proving otherwise has been submitted to the Trust.
The Kenfig.org website is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and
has been recognised by the National Library of Wales as 'An important part of Wales' documentary heritage' -
we would not be in this position if the project was operated solely as an individual project.
Secured Funding from another Source
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group have aquired the funding for the said equipment from another source
and the DVD will be produced "without" the help & support of the Kenfig Corporation Trust.
We entrust
this statement will encourage the Kenfig Corporation Trust to learn from its mistakes and to embrace
our "permanent" online project as it has long-term benefits to both the Trust and the community at large.
A DVD of the 2008 Annual Gambo Race coverage (Including footage at the Prince of Wales Inn) will be made
available in the near future... proceeds of the sale of which will be donated to a local charity, The
Sandville Self Help Centre.
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group is an open and friendly organisation willing to work cooperatively
with all other local community groups & organisations for the benefit of our local communities -

Disclaimer:
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group has no previous and/or present argument with the past/present/future
tennant management of the Prince of Wales Inn; the above declaration of a boycott of the start of the 2008
Annual Gambo Race coverage at the Prince of Wales Inn is merely aimed at outlining and hopefully rectifying a
community problem that has arisen over the past few years - the community needs to work cooperatively together
where the benefits to all are untold.
The Kenfig.org Website
The Kenfig.org Local Community Group is responsible for a comprehensive & permanent website documenting the entire history of
the Old Kenfig Borough / Old Bro Cynffig from pre-historic times to the present day.
We are documenting the history of Kenfig, its community, people and political structure through the ages which includes the
Kenfig Corporation Trust amongst others - The Kenfig Corporation Trust are being a little unreasonable with regards supporting
this new online venture which has been granted Heritage Status by the National Library of Wales & which is beneficial to
the education of our nation as a whole and indirectly, to the Kenfig Corporation Trust themselves & the local community.
